Knights Go 2-0 in Doubleheader

After a heartbreaking overtime loss to Rocky Mountain Thursday night, the Knights would look to come out on top in a double-header Saturday against the Lake City Timberwolves (1-6, 3-6) and the Coeur d’Alene Vikings (0-6, 2-7).

In the first game of the day, slow and sloppy play would be all the Bishop Kelly Knights (3-5, 4-7) needed to light a fire and begin to build towards May. After a back and forth three quarters of play, which left the Knights with only a one-goal lead, Bishop Kelly would score ten unanswered goals to close out the game.

The Knights would be led by Henry Liao (Sr, M) and Robbie Rebholtz (Sr, M) at the face-off X, together winning 20 of their 24 total face-offs taken and scooping up 17 groundballs. Multiple Knights would get in on the action, with goals coming from Ben Shalz (Sr, A), Cole Anchustegui (Jr, A), Ryan Frechette (So, A), Jared Dolby (Sr, M), John Alder (Sr, A), Cooper Feeney (Jr, M), Nate Johnson (Sr, M), and Lucas Fehringer (Jr, M).

The afternoon match-up would find a much more disciplined Bishop Kelly team take the field, evident by their play from the first whistle. The Knights would take a 4-2 lead after one, 9-3 after two, 13-4 after three, and finish the game at 14-4.

This game would see the Knights’ defense begin to pressure out and challenge the Vikings’ attack and midfield units, collapsing hard and fast to any attack towards the cage. Senior defenders Grant Koehl, Austin Schaecher, and Harrison Montgomery stood out for the Knights, scooping up 10 GBs off forced turnovers. Offensively the Knights would be led by John Alder (Sr, A) with six (6) points on four (4) goals and two (2) assists and scooping up five (5) groundballs. Not to be left out, Ben Shalz would add three (3) goals and five (5) groundballs.

Bishop Kelly will now prepare for high-scoring Timberline Wolves (8-1, 10-4) this Wednesday at 6 PM at Timberline High School.
