On an evening the Knights would soon like to forget, the Mustangs would simply be too hard to rein in, winning the game decisively by the score of 13-4, and dropping the Knights to 2-6 on the season.
Bishop Kelly Knights (1-3, 2-6) would travel to the Eagle Mustangs (5-1, 6-3) Wednesday night, hoping to break their two-game losing streak and recapture some momentum in league-play. The Mustangs would be quick to strike out of the gate, scoring their first goal just over a minute into play. Eagle would follow-up with two more scores before the Knights would be able to regroup and force some settled play. With the flick of a switch though, the Knights would find a gap in the stout Eagle defense and begin a run of their own, scoring three goals (John Alder (Sr, A) and Zach Little (Sr, M)) in the final two minutes of the first quarter to tie the game at three a piece.
From there though, the Knights would struggle to find any success on offense and a consistent method of slowing down the Mustangs on defense. While only keeping the Mustangs to two goals in the second quarter, Eagle would add three more answered in the third, and three more in the fourth before the Knights were able to find the back of the net. Alder would score in the fourth quarter on an unassisted goal to bring Bishop Kelly to four goals on the evening, followed up by two more goals from the Mustangs to close out the evening.
While the Knights would keep it close on groundballs and face-offs, the Mustangs would run away with the game in most every other aspect: outplaying the Knights between the lines, stonewalling any offensive possession, and doubling up on the Knights in shots.
Bishop Kelly will look to regroup for a big home match-up against the top-seeded Rocky Mountain Grizzlies (4-1, 7-3) this Thursday at Bishop Kelly High School at 7:30 PM.
