Looking to build off the OT win over Centennial, the Bishop Kelly Knights (1-2, 2-4) took the field Wednesday night against the Rocky Mountain Grizzlies (3-0, 6-2). With Rocky Mountain riding a four-game win streak and securing strong league wins over both Boise and Centennial, the Knights knew they would have their hands full.
The action started quick Wednesday evening, with a Grizzly goal just twenty seconds into the first quarter. Bishop Kelly would take control of the next face-off, and many more that evening, thanks to the strong draw play from Henry Liao (Sr, M). The Knights would soon even the score on an unassisted goal from Jared Dolby (Sr, M) and begin the back and forth battle that would go on for the next 24 minutes. For every Rocky Mountain score, the Knights would find a way to answer, with goals coming from John Alder (Sr, A), Nate Johnson (Sr, M), and another from Dolby.
Thanks to some disciplined transition, the Knights were able to keep the Grizzlies on their toes, forcing a number of turnovers and failed clears, giving the Knights every opportunity to take the lead. Grant Koehl (Sr, LSM) led the way for the Knights between the lines with some incessant riding and wonderful stick checks.
Where the Knights found success in the first half, the second half would not be so kind. Strong goalie play from the Grizzlies and five unanswered goals would give Rocky Mountain the cushion they needed to secure the victory. Despite a late fourth quarter rally from the Knights, they would only be able to add one more tally on a feed from Alder to Cooper Feeney (Jr, M), closing the gap to four goals with under a minute to play.
Bishop Kelly will begin preparations to host American Fork (UT) on Saturday, April 11th at Bishop Kelly High School at 1 PM.
